Comparison shopping

Comparison Shopping: How to get customized value for everything you buy, tailored to your needs!

More and more people are fast becoming ardent comparison shoppers. Most of us must watch our expenses carefully. This means less impulse buying, nailing down value and careful comparison shopping. Here’s how to customize your comparison shopping routine, so that you weigh the factors according to your needs. When you use this strategy, you get true value in your purchases.

There are x number of criteria to consider when comparison shopping. They are price, quality, functionality and your application. If you’re buying a weed-whacker which you’ll be using frequently on large areas (your application), quality is probably your main priority, followed by functions and features, then price. Why? The cheapest priced unit is likely to break down quickly in heavy use. You’ll end up buying the highest quality unit which stands up to your purpose.

If your application calls for the weed-whacker to edge your small lawn once a month, why waste money on the super-duty unit?

When buying a semi-durable good of this type, consumer reports provide a good start  to comparison shopping. Such reports rate the product on every feature it provides. Such reports can help you zero in on the brands which demonstrate the higher quality and durability. This is also a good way to find which unit rates high in features you need.

You can apply the ‘price, quality, functionality and your application’ formula to just about everything you might buy. Let’s run through a few diverse, everyday items to help show how this comparison shopping strategy works.

1.You only use brand X toothpaste. It’s $3.29 at the supermarket and $1 at the dollar-type store. Same product, no contest. You save $2.29.
2.You need a new bedspread. You don’t want to spend a lot. You want good looks, but will only use it in summer. Go for the best price. Every price range will have attractive patterns and colors.
3.Your 6-year old grows like a weed and he needs new t-shirts for summer wear. In this instance, he may outgrow it before summer’s over. He’ll be as happy as your wallet with cool Disney shirts from the second hand kid’s shop.
4.You need a stunning pair of shoes to look your best for a one time use (a night at the opera). OK, you don’t need the $200 pair. Get the cheap knockoff. The added comfort you might derive from the real deal is not worth $200.

Comparison shopping is an art. Shop according to your personal priorities to get the best overall value, despite what a chart may say. It’s likely your needs don’t require buying the top-rated everything. Only when you need it.

Job Sites

No one ever said finding a decent job would be a cinch. Sure, most adults will tell you that college is the key, and you’re pretty much screwed without it, but they probably fail to elaborate on the job market for college graduates. Just because you attended a four-year University and attained that bachelor degree status, doesn’t mean employers are going to be lining up to offer you outstanding job positions. In reality you have to work for those wonderful positions of employment. This involves scouring job sites on the Internet, skimming through the newspapers, and crafting a stellar resume. You have to bring your A game to the table if you want to get hired, because the competition is fierce.

Hopefully you’re already familiar with job sites and career search engines. This is certainly no new concept by any means. Folks like you and me have been taking advantage of job search engines for a good decade now. This is a wonderful thing. There was nothing like this for our parents back in the day. We now have the power to hop on our wireless laptops and scan hundreds of job opportunities in a single sitting. The traditional newspaper can’t vie with that in any way. These days you don’t even have to sort through the masses of random positions. With online job sites you can navigate using your specific field and/or desired location. Generally each listing will elaborate on necessary education and training requested. However, that doesn’t mean that you can’t or even shouldn’t send your resume and cover letter. If the position sounds amazing and you want it, then go for it. Not everyone has training right off the bat. Most of us come out of college without any. We simply have our degree under our belts in the beginning, but you have to start somewhere.

One of the greatest perks to Internet job sites is the resume services offered. While employers pay to have their positions posted, we don’t pay anything. You can list your resume online and allow all potential employers to view it and contact your via phone and/or email. This new-age system of job-seeking is where it’s at! Therefore you shouldn’t have too much trouble finding that ideal career in the 21st century.

Reading Book

Filed under: Education - Administrator @ 4:39 am

When I went into the first parent teacher conference for my daughter, her teacher gave me a glowing review and reminded me that one of the best things I could be doing with her is reading books. This is something that we have been doing ever since she has been old enough to focus her eyes on a picture, even if she wasn’t yet old enough to understand what the words meant. Reading was something we did with her all of the time, and it shows in how well she is doing now that she is in school.

Reading is one of the most important things that anyone can do. There are some that slip through school and out into the real world without being able to read. I don’t understand how that happens, but it does. I can’t imagine living in a world where reading books would be something I could not do. This is something that is essential to a good life, and it usually starts out with reading books when we are very young, even if we just look at them for a moment and then chew on them for a while.

If you aren’t sure about which reading books you should be reading to your child, don’t think so hard. There are hundreds if not thousands of books out there just for children and any of them will do. When they are young, look for reading books that have large colorful pictures, and that may have few words. The stores should be very simple and should wrap up quickly. As they get older, the books can then become a bit more detailed, though pictures are still very important. When they start school, relating pictures to words is going to be very helpful.

As children age past the age where they have learned to read, reading books are still very important. Those who read always have a leg up on everyone else, and will usually do very well in school. There are some reading books that are made for those who may have a learning disability or are having problems with reading, and these special programs can usually be found through your school. Don’t worry about a child that has problems with reading, but instead, find the best solution to help them. Even if someone can only get to a certain level of reading will still do much better in life than those that slip through the cracks.
